Effect By Numbers:
2021: It was another difficult year for many of us. We all were feeling stessed and overwhelmed. We still continued to focus on following our passion and helping the community. Pillars of SELF (Support, Educate, Lead, Focus) helped us focus and move forward.
We welcome Bidisha Sinha as DIWA’s Marketing Director of Public Relations in 2021.
Below are the summary of 2021 activities:

Launched Indian Artist (IAE) -empowered 6 Local Female Artists

Donated 150 blankets and 55 Knit items (Hats, socks, scarf, headbands) to Children Hospital and COTS
-
Spring and Fall IFW, 2021-We not only continued with the Empowerment of creative Industry Entrepreneurs (Fashion Designers, Jewelry Artist, Make-up Artists, Henna Artists, Videographers/Photographers, Event Planners, Saree Drapers, Music…) but also built self-esteem, togetherness among Young and Mature Adults and Kids and brought the community together.

Collaborated with MaiFS for Purple Challenge to raise funds to support their cause.

Also provided support of $300 to a domestic violence and pregnant women in need

We launched technology Job placement program for women with SAANVI technologies

DIWA is a proud sponsor of Inter-collegiate South Asian Dance Competition, Dhamaal, supporting the effort of the youth.

Collaborated with Meijer and donated 250 Hygiene and Meal package to Homeless Shelters

Educated the community with LGBTQIA, Financials (Smart Women, Smart Investors) and empowered Women with Communicated seminars and workshops

Joined hands with SEWAUSA.org and raised funds for Oxygen Concentrators and basic amenities for affected families with Covid in India

Mental Health and Emotional Wellness-For each Month starting from May to Sept-Organized Yoga sessions and Nature Walks

DIWAHAG- National Earth Day-Restore our Earth by Planting

Health and Garden Committee (DIWAHAG), Planted a veggie and flower garden for Earth Day at Living and learning Enrichment Center for Autism which included over 500 plants (Sunflower, Marigold, Dahlias, Zinnias, Cucumber, Zucchini, Tomatoes, Beans). This project helped not only beautify but also empowered the students and the families

For Global Parents Day, made 50 flower arrangements and distributed to 8 Nursing Homes throughout MI

Harvested and donated 45lbs of tomatoes and 20lbs of Squash to Crossroads Shelter for homeless

Health, Beauty and Wellness committee organized multiple webinars which focused on Healthy Living and created awareness about Nutrition within the community

Raised funds to support Cancer donation initiative and launched PurpleFun Program

Annual Garba was born during COVID to help the community celebrate the event in a safe environment and now it is a yearly event to bring the community together to appreciate nature and celebrate Goddess Durga!

Collaborated with Schoolcraft to celebrate Diwali and empower students and adults

2020: A year for all of us to pitch in for the community, Detroit Indian Women's Association did their part:
